Drying Off

Constraints at the end of a season vary enormously depending on farm circumstances and management practices. Herd-Man provides a powerful set of tools that you can use to best suit your own end of season requirements. These tools will allow you to dry off cows as individuals or mobs to achieve maximum days in milk. Examples are given as a guide and to compliment good on-farm practices.

Once you have added your dry cow drug to Herd-Man, you can quickly and easily record dry cow treatments for a group or groups of cows.

Optional: Customers who have recorded calvings in Herd-Man will need to dry them off in Herd-Man too. This information is not currently sent to the National Database.

Drying off a Group of Cows

You may want to cull cows based on their seasonal mastitis indications. Herd-man provides two useful measurements; Season Mastitis and Season Treatment Courses. The Season Mastitis measurement looks at the season average of the cow's Mastitis Ratio. Season Treatment Courses is a count of the number of mastitis treatment courses the cow has had this season.
