How Prime Mastitis can help you

What Prime Mastitis does

You already know that the MilkHub sensor looks at first foremilk characteristics of each cow, every milking, and ranks cows based on the measurements derived. Prime Mastitis is a mastitis measurement that looks at how cows are changing. It's a way of seeing changes in individual mastitis measurements.

How to interpret the Prime Mastitis measurement

A cow who is not changing will have a measurement of 1. Cows who have had an increase in their mastitis measurements will be above 1. Cows who have had a decrease in their mastitis measurements will be below 1. It is possible for cows to have a sudden decrease in their Prime Mastitis measurements due to the infected quarter being blocked. Prime Mastitis is a sensitive measurement so cows with numbers less than 0.95 or greater than 1.05 are changing very fast.

Similiarly, you can use the above method to find the lowest 5% of your Prime Mastitis cows for checking. This method is recommended to check that none of the very low Prime Mastitis cows have blocked infected quarters.

The MilkHub in-shed system will sound and display when a cow you have set up to alert steps onto the platform and her electronic tag is read by the platform RFID reader. This allows you to check her before you cup her. You can draft her out and bring her back onto the platform after milking for treatment.
