Introduction - Managing your BMSCC with MilkHub

MilkHub is a mastitis screening system that you use to narrow down on the cows to be checked for mastitis. It needs to be used regularly and consistently to be effective. Many of the cows that you check will be sub-clinical but infections can break out quickly and MilkHub should be used as a preventative measure regardless.

There are two stages to using MilkHub for mastitis. The first stage looks at using the Mastitis Ratio and allows you to get your herd BMSCC to where you want it by finding your high SCC cows. The second stage looks at using Prime Mastitis, Yield 2weeks, Time last seen and Days in season as a way of finding cows that have had changes in infection symptoms.

Mastitis Ratio is the ratio of a single cow's mastitis measurement compared to the rest of the herds measurements. It is measured over a 5 day period. A ratio of 1 indicates a cow that is unlikely to be infected. The higher the ratio, the higher the possibility of infection.

Prime Mastitis is a ratio that compares a single cow's mastitis measurement against her own measurement from 7 days ago. A ratio of 1 indicates no change in measurements and she is unlikely to be infected. The higher the ratio, the higher the possibility of infection. The acceptable range of measurements is 0.95 - 1.05.
